After months of speaking with local community members and organisations, The Nationals’ Member for Euroa, Annabelle Cleeland, has pinpointed several key projects in the region requiring funding in the next Victorian State Budget.
Ms Cleeland sent the 12-page document to Premier Jacinta Allan this week after receiving news that retiring Treasurer Tim Pallas would not be in the role to review the requests.
Projects earmarked for funding include new schools, upgrades to emergency service facilities, sporting club upgrades, road maintenance, childcare facilities, upgrades to community houses, healthcare services, and much more.
“Our region, like much of regional Victoria, has failed to receive a fair amount of funding from this Labor Government,” Ms Cleeland said.
“When you look at the amount of money wasted by this government on delayed and over-budget city infrastructure projects, it shows just how disappointing the lack of spend in our communities is.
“These projects cost a tiny fraction of what this government is wasting every day, yet they would bring about such significant change for so many in our community.
“Whether it be improving access to childcare or schooling in towns like Seymour, Kilmore, and Heathcote, ensuring that CFA brigades in Strathbogie have effective facilities, or creating a larger space for our community groups in Benalla, these are projects that matter to our community and the people that live here.”
Ms Cleeland thanked the several responses she received from local residents and organisations after opening up budget requests to the community.
“It was so pleasing to receive so many responses from local community organisations, all with great ideas that will benefit our towns,” Ms Cleeland said.
“I hope that the Premier takes the needs of our towns seriously and ensures we receive much-needed funding that is long overdue.”
