Nationals Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland has congratulated Benalla on continually demonstrating why it is one of regional Victoria’s most thriving towns when it comes to the arts and culture.
Ms Cleeland paid special attention to the opening of the new Benalla Cinema and Visitor Centre, saying they bring an extra dimension to an already prospering art scene in the region.
“It’s an exciting time to be in Benalla as the town’s arts precinct continues to prosper,” Ms Cleeland said.
“The launch of the brand-new 64 seat cinema will ensure our locals have access to the newest films and documentaries, while the accompanying upgrades to the visitor centre will be host to fantastic artwork on display including a patchwork quilt made by local Aboriginal women.
“These projects add to an already thriving art and culture scene in Benalla, which is home to a top-shelf art gallery, an ever-growing short film festival, as well as world famous street art and murals that decorate many of the town’s major buildings and alleys.”
Ms Cleeland was also happy to hear that the Benalla Street Art Festival (formerly known as the Wall to Wall Festival) received funding to hold a festival in town in 2024.
“This festival has been instrumental in creating the creative murals that surround Benalla and I’m thrilled to hear that it will be returning next year,” Ms Cleeland said.
“Not only is this a brilliant opportunity to bring visitors to our region, it supports local jobs and boosts the local economy.
“It’s an exciting time to be in Benalla as it continues to stand out as one of the most vibrant arts destinations in regional Victoria.”
