A new community food share initiative launched in Seymour last week, with a collaboration between Healthy Kids Mitchell and the Seymour Food Relief Collaborative aiming to provide food relief to the local community.
Hosted at The Centre on Wallis Street, the program will operate once a month, with non-perishable hampers being provided to members of the community that need it most.
The program launched on Thursday, with at least 50 hampers given away on the first day.
Nationals Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland said the food relief program was a fantastic initiative that will make a difference to the lives of so many members of the Seymour community that are struggling during tough times.
“I want to congratulate those involved on successfully launching this amazing program,” Ms Cleeland said.
“It is a sad reality that many in our local region are doing it tough with the cost-of-living crisis having a significant impact on families across Seymour and the wider electorate.
“This program will make a real difference in helping these people get some much needed help and some relief from soaring grocery prices, exorbitant bills, and the lingering impact of last year’s floods.
“As a community, we are stronger together than we are apart.”
Additional food relief resources will be made available in Seymour, open to all, and the group is also aiming to help overcome the stigma sometimes associated around needing help to make do.
Any member of the community is invited to come along for a coffee and a chat at the monthly offerings, with the food hampers being arranged through Shepparton Foodshare.
There will also be information available from the collaborative members on other services and supports available to the community.
