Nationals Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland was in attendance as the Longwood Community Centre’s celebrated their 40th anniversary on Sunday.
The Community Centre has been a hub for the local area, acting as the town’s emergency refuge, a home for the legendary ‘Redlegs’ and hosting numerous exciting local events.
Ms Cleeland was thrilled to be invited to join the festivities, thanking those who organised the event and all who have continued to make the community centre such a vital part of the local fabric.
“Even 40 years later, the Longwood Community Centre continues to be an important meeting place for local families, community groups, and events,” Ms Cleeland said.
“Thanks to Councillor Fergie Ewart and so many selfless locals, the centre opened debt-free and 15 months early back in 1983.
“Amazingly, in 1983 the regional ‘Citizen of the Year Award’ was not given to an individual, but instead to ‘the people of Longwood’ as a whole for their efforts in raising the money and building the centre together.
“Here’s to decades of ambitious community spirit, resilience, and shared accomplishments.”
