Cleeland demands answers on delayed Seymour Line safety report
The Nationals, Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland has called on the Allan Labor Government to urgently release the long-promised safety report into the train uncoupling incident on the Seymour line, labelling the delay unacceptable and deeply concerning for regional passengers.
The incident, which occurred between Seymour and Tallarook in August 2025, raised serious safety concerns after a train became uncoupled while in operation. At the time, the minister committed to a full investigation and a publicly available safety report.
More than six months on, that report has yet to be released.
Ms Cleeland has formally questioned the Minister for Public and Active Transport in Parliament, seeking clarity on when the report will be made public and what measures have been implemented in the meantime to ensure passenger safety.
“Regional passengers deserve transparency and confidence in their public transport network, and right now they have neither,” Ms Cleeland said.
“This was a serious safety incident, and yet the Labor government’s response has been anything but serious. The continued delay in releasing this report is simply not good enough.”
Ms Cleeland said commuters and families who rely on the Seymour line are being left in the dark about what went wrong and whether it could happen again.
“People are entitled to know what caused this incident and what safeguards are now in place. Instead, we are seeing silence and inaction.”
“If the Labor government is confident in the safety of this line, then they should have no hesitation in releasing the findings.”
Ms Cleeland also questioned what interim actions have been taken to prevent a similar incident, warning that a lack of transparency only undermines public trust.
“Safety cannot be an afterthought. The Allan Labor government must come clean, release the report, and outline exactly what has been done to protect passengers.”
Ms Cleeland will continue to advocate for answers on behalf of her community and is urging the government to prioritise the safety and reliability of regional rail services.
