The Nationals Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland has highlighted the need for the new Heathcote SES and CFA build in the wake of heavy rainfall over the weekend.
Ms Cleeland made an election commitment to build a co-located site for the SES and CFA during the recent state election campaign which was supported by the Victorian Government off the back of Ms Cleeland’s advocacy.
Ms Cleeland said the need for the upgrade was clear with both SES and CFA buildings outdated and inefficient.
“Last night the Heathcote SES team responded to eight call outs, with a significant downpour in a very short period,” Ms Cleeland said.
“The current SES building is susceptible to flooding which is the last thing volunteers need while they’re serving the community.
“The Nationals made a commitment to build a co-located SES and CFA site on higher ground, which was welcomed by both crews.
“The CFA also have their own share of problems with their current site but have a fantastic relationship with the SES.
“Off the back of our advocacy it was great to convince the government of the need for a new and upgraded site for local volunteers.”
Ms Cleeland said emergency service volunteers across the region deserved quality facilities to train, respond and recover in.
“Our local SES and CFA teams put everything on the line to support the community and keep us safe,” Ms Cleeland said.
“They deserve the very best facilities and resources to back up their incredible work.
“The Heathcote SES have been extremely busy through a couple of months of wild weather and flooding with some great support from the CFA.
“Darren, Carl and their teams at the SES and CFA deserve all the plaudits they receive. They’re community leaders and continue to serve their community with pride.”
