The Nationals Member for Euroa, Annabelle Cleeland, has paid tribute to Kestrel Aviation as the iconic Mangalore-based company celebrated its 40th anniversary at this week.
Ms Cleeland was a guest speaker at the anniversary celebration, where she praised the local, family-owned business for its leadership in aerial firefighting, emergency response, and aviation training .
“What Kestrel Aviation has built over four decades goes far beyond aircraft and operations – it has built a legacy of service, innovation, and community spirit,” Ms Cleeland said.
“Kestrel regional powerhouse, born from a family vision and built by home-grown heroes.”
Founded by Ray and Eleanor Cronin in 1985, Kestrel has grown into one of Australia’s most respected aviation service providers.
With a fleet of 21 aircraft and a pioneering role in night-time firebombing, Kestrel’s technology and expertise are now used globally – but its roots remain firmly in the region.
“While Mangalore may just be a small town with a pub and an intersection, it is home to something special,” Ms Cleeland said.
“This is not just a company – it’s a local, sovereign capability that helps save lives in times of crisis.”
Kestrel has been instrumental in major disaster responses, including the Black Summer fires, the 2022 floods, and Northern NSW recovery efforts.
In 2023, 121 Kestrel staff were awarded National Emergency Medals for their critical work.
Beyond emergencies, the company has also had a major economic and social impact — creating jobs, attracting talent, and supporting local communities.
“From Mangalore to Nagambie, Avenel to Seymour – the ripple effect of Kestrel’s presence is deeply felt across our region,” Ms Cleeland said.
