Letter to the Editor – ANZAC Day

Thursday, April 16, 2026

Dear Editor,

As ANZAC Day 2026 approaches, we take time to honour the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who have served our nation.

Across our region, communities will gather at dawn services and memorials, standing together in quiet respect. These moments matter. They remind us of the cost of service and the responsibility we all carry to remember it.

Throughout our region, service runs through generations. For many families, ANZAC Day is deeply personal. It lives in family stories, in photographs on the mantelpiece, and in the names etched on our local cenotaphs.

I am always struck by the strength of our veteran community. Not only in what they have given, but in the way they continue to support one another and contribute to our towns.

ANZAC Day is a time to stand with them and to acknowledge the values they represent. Courage, resilience and mateship.

We will remember them.

Lest we forget.
