Nagambie students call for more fish in the lake and safer regional roads

Nagambie Primary School students have called on the Allan Labor Government to boost fish stocking in Lake Nagambie and fix the dangerous regional roads their families rely on every day.

During their visit to the Victorian Parliament, hosted by Nationals Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland, the students put forward clear and practical ideas to improve life in their hometown.

Ms Cleeland said she was inspired by the students’ confidence and how strongly they spoke about issues that matter to their community.

“Darby didn’t hesitate when talking about the potholes along the Goulburn Valley Highway, warning the next car could ‘blow up into smithereens’. When our kids are worried about the state of our roads, the Government cannot keep pretending everything is fine,” Ms Cleeland said.

“Zhyven, Archie and Aiden raised smart and thoughtful concerns about the decline in native fish levels in Lake Nagambie, calling for restocking to help restore the health of the waterway. They know how important the lake is for locals and visitors, and they want to see it protected.”

The students also shared wider ideas for their community, raising concerns about public toilets, recreation facilities, safety education and ways to bring more life and activity to the town.

“These kids showed real insight. They understand what their community needs and they deserve a Government that listens to them,” Ms Cleeland said.

“Regional voices should never be an afterthought, and that includes the voices of our youngest locals. I stand proudly with the students of Nagambie Primary School. Their message is simple and sensible: fix our roads, restore our waterways and back the future of regional Victoria.”
