Nationals Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland has met with the Seymour Community House to discuss possibilities to offer more childcare opportunities in the local area.
The meeting follows a disappointing state budget when it comes to childcare, with Seymour’s childcare centre set to be axed as Labor announced their kindergarten and childcare rollout would be taking a backseat.
“Seymour’s childcare centre was one of 50 initially planned for the State, yet it seems that it will just end up being another broken promise,” Ms Cleeland said.
“It was bad enough when Labor said it would take until 2028 for the new centre to open, and now it has been delayed indefinitely as Labor ‘slows down’ their childcare rollout.
“While this is incredibly frustrating for the entire electorate, there are now opportunities for community groups, not-for-profits, and private businesses to deliver childcare for local families.
“Speaking with the Seymour Community House, it was clear they are someone that can deliver this to a high level – they just need some support.”
Ms Cleeland said she has requested a meeting with the Minister for Children to discuss the childcare opportunities available in Seymour.
“I am hoping to share the amazing work being done locally in Seymour and explore opportunities for these facilities to receive some support,” Ms Cleeland said.
“While Labor’s attempted roll-out of new childcare centres across the state has been a disaster, this Government cannot simply ignore the sector and must explore alternative possibilities to bring childcare to our region.”
