This decision, albeit delayed, is a step in the right direction towards ensuring residents of the Strathbogie Shire are governed effectively and with their best interests in mind.
The ongoing uncertainty around the decision from the Minister, coupled with poor local governance, has resulted in residents being kept in the dark for too long.
When you are in a position of leadership, you have to find ways to work together to serve the people you are elected to represent – that is the job.
It is essential to stay connected to your community and ensure you are always acting in their best interests.
I hope the fallout from this decision inspires a new generation of would-be councillors to step up at the next council elections and I encourage anyone interested in making a difference for their local community to put their hands up for the role.
I also want to extend my support to council staff who throughout this tumultuous period have continued to work for the local community’s interests. It has not gone unnoticed.
I hope that this period of administration will see a shake-up of the organisation to ensure it is meeting the needs of the community.
It would be in the best interests of the local community to have a read of the Monitor’s Report so locals are aware of what issues prevented this council from operating effectively.
