Urgent help for CFA exemption applications

After widespread frustration from CFA volunteers struggling with the Emergency Services Levy exemption process, The Nationals Member for Euroa, Annabelle Cleeland MP, will host a dedicated in-person support day in Benalla next month.

The volunteers assistance day has been organised at Ms Cleeland’s office at 25 Bridge Street, Benalla, to help volunteers complete the exemption application, which is currently only available online.

The exemption comes as The Nationals vow to scrap the $3 billion Emergency Services Tax, a hit landing in the middle of a cost of living crisis while frontline emergency services are being short-changed.

In September, Ms Cleeland formally called for CFA volunteers to be provided with paper copies of the rebate application form, yet the Treasurer has still failed to respond.

“This tax is wrong in both timing and design. Families are under pressure, volunteers are stretched, and yet the Allan Labor Government is demanding more while delivering less,” Ms Cleeland said.

Ms Cleeland said she will continue pushing for a paper-based exemption form, but would not leave volunteers stuck in the meantime.

“CFA volunteers give everything to keep our communities safe. They should not be blocked from support by a difficult online system,” Ms Cleeland said.

“I will keep fighting for a simple paper form, but right now this is about making sure no volunteer misses out on an exemption they are entitled to.”

On the day, the office will provide hands-on help with:
• Navigating the online exemption portal
• Uploading required documentation
• Checking eligibility
• General support with the application process
