Victorian students continue to be denied the high-quality education they deserve as new figures reveal dozens of schools across the state are over-capacity.
Department of Education Enrolment Pressure Index (EPI) data has confirmed 70 Victorian government schools were full or over capacity during the last school year.
Two schools within the Euroa electorate were in the 10 most over-capacity schools in regional Victoria, with Longwood Primary School (107 per cent) and Colbinabbin Primary School (106 per cent) both alarmingly full.
Meanwhile, Wallan Primary School was listed just outside the ten most over-capacity schools with 103 per cent.
The Nationals’ Member for Euroa, Annabelle Cleeland, said more support was needed for local schools to ensure students had the best education possible.
“It is alarming to see many of our local schools either nearing capacity or already over-capacity,” Ms Cleeland said.
“No student can achieve their best in a classroom bursting at the seams. The Allan Labor Government must get its priorities right and ensure schools have the investment and resources needed to keep up with enrolment growth.
“We’ve already seen Labor backtrack on 29 promised school upgrades in the last State Budget, including ones that would benefit our region, and now they are failing to manage our classrooms.
“Labor cannot manage money, cannot manage our education system and Victorians are paying the price.”
