The deadline for businesses to begin applications for financial assistance after October’s floods is approaching on February 7.
Businesses must have applied for the $5,000 Small Business Immediate Flood Relief Program by February 7 in order to be eligible for the Business and Community Sport Flood Recovery Grants stream which has a cut off date of May 1.
Local MP Annabelle Cleeland said businesses should not be shy in coming forward for assistance.
“The October floods devastated our region, and these grants exist to provide businesses a helping hand. I encourage everyone impacted to make the most of this assistance,” Ms Cleeland said.
“I’ve been speaking to businesses across the region and many were not even aware assistance was available.
“In order to be eligible for assistance of up to $50,000 you must have applied for the initial $5,000 grant by February 7.”
Support is available to businesses who require assistance with the application process.
“If you’re unsure of the first step please reach out to Business Victoria on 13 22 15 or the Flood Recovery Helpline on 1800 560 760,” Ms Cleeland said.
“Support is now available every weekday from 9:30-4:30 at the Seymour Library, with agencies and council on hand to assist with applications.
“My team and I have also been working on urgent businesses support with the government so please reach out to me via email or call my office if you need this help.”
Despite the incredible challenges of the October floods, Ms Cleeland said the resilience of communities across the region continues to shine through.
“So many local businesses are still recovering from COVID, with flooding yet another mountain to climb,” Ms Cleeland said.
“Wherever I go, the spirit and determination of business owners never ceases to amaze, and everyone is keen to get back on their feet and into regular trading as soon as possible.
“Please don’t be shy about asking for assistance. Support is available and I urge everyone affected to apply for these grants before February 7.”
