The Nationals’ Member for Euroa, Annabelle Cleeland, braved the icy waters of the Euroa Arboretum dam on Thursday as part of the Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day Dip challenge.
Ms Cleeland participated alongside the “Dam Dunkers” team of local heroes, including Jenny Houghton, Jill Taylor, Phil Whitten, Patti Matthews, Brendan Allen, JoAnn Resing, and Rachael Buerckner.
Together, Ms Cleeland and the Dam Dunkers have raised over $3500.
Joined by family, friends, and other incredible local fundraisers, Ms Cleeland said the event was about more than just a chilly swim.
“Almost one in two Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85,” Ms Cleeland said.
“In regional communities like ours, families can also face the added burden of distance, cost, and limited services when trying to access the care and treatment they desperately need.
“Fundraisers like this help drive awareness, provide vital funds for research, and remind those impacted that they are not alone.”
The dip was one of nearly 9000 held across the country, contributing to almost $2 million raised so far.
In less than 24 hours, Ms Cleeland raised her $1000 goal.
Ms Cleeland thanked everyone who has supported the cause and generously donated.
“I’m so grateful to everyone who has donated and to all those who have taken part.
“Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.”
